Google Project Glass

Google Project Glass

Google have unveiled their latest creation, Project Glass. This look so cool and kind of scary, the future is coming to the consumer market at lightning speed. How long is it before everyone is wearing these? I remember not so long ago, when most people didn’t have cell phones, now you are definitely in the minority if you don’t own one. Although, it was in some ways nice that people didn’t expect to get hold of you all the time, wherever you are. I love gadgets but do sometimes miss the slower pace of life before mobile technology…. but I still want a pair of Googles new glasses to replace my much loved iPhone!

The glass eye ware projects information graphics in pop up form on a small screen in front of your eyes. It has been discussed that the interface may include motion-sensors, GPS location services and a wireless 4G wireless connections.

The project is still in it’s concept stage and Google have been asking for feedback before they make any final decisions about the user interface design. The project seems to have had its fair share of criticisms. Joe Stracci a technology blog writer, responded to Google comment, who state they want their technology “to be there when you need it and get out of your way when you don’t.” Stracci says: “I fail to see how wearing this technology on your face means it’s out of the way.” and in response to Google seeking valuable input, Stracci translates as “We’re deathly afraid of creating yet another product that winds up failing.”

Despite the criticism, there are many people that think this is Awesome and will be lining up to get a pair.

How Will Google Plus Affect Your SEO?

As we mentioned our ‘The +1 Button and What It Means For Small Businesses’ post the Google+1 Button is a turbo charged ‘like’ button and is going to create some changes in the social sharing world. The +1 Button has some major advantages over the Facebook ‘like’ button and with the Google Plus network already supporting more than 20 million users it really is becoming a serious competitor to the social media giants Twitter and Facebook.

It’s no real surprise that Google is going to and the certainly have the power to add in some additional factors and advanced features to attract users to the  Plus network. One of the ways Google is getting the edge over the other social media networks is its power to affect search engine optimization and search engine results.

One of the SEO differences that Google has chosen to do is allow the links you add to your Google Plus Posts and ‘About Me’ profile section to be followed by search engines with the DoFollow tag. Facebook and Twitter both have NoFollow links so you do get any SEO benefit from adding links there.

DoFollow links are a must for link building, website SEO and ultimately your Google page rankings, so that combined with the fact that if you are logged into your Google account you get tailored search results, you can share you results and +1′s with your network without having to go to your Google Plus homepage . You can see that Google really does have the advantage for building a great Social Media network, its just a matter of time.

Another SEO factor is that Google is the number of +1′s a site has is going to affect the results and rankings of that page. They actually used to use the number of re-tweats a post had on Twitter as determining factor in how Google decided to index that page/tweet in their search engine results, until Google quietly cut off the Twitter firehose from their results…so you can make a safe bet that they are going to do the same with the number of +1′s a site has as a determining factor of a sites popularity and relevance to search quires.

Google is changing how we search for information into a social event, a quote for a rep states “relevance isn’t just about pages – it’s also about relationships” After the recent changes with the Panda Algorithms Google has been really redefining how to produce the most relevant search results. Its is hard to imagine that Google Plus and the +1 wont have a substantial impact on both indexing, rankings and the world of social sharing. With the +1 button on every post on Google Plus walls, on independent websites and on every search result listing, you can’t help to take notices and try to get an early start on utilizing the power of Google Plus.

Google+

While Google+ users are waiting for the social media platform to take off, the +1 button is growing in popularity as a content sharing tool. One of the reasons for it popularity is that it is a one click tool that allows logged-in users to +1 anything from images, videos or articles directly from the search engine results page. Although the Google+ site currently doesn’t have the volume of traffic that Facebook or Twitter receive the fact that the sharing capabilities of these sites requires an extra step of clicking through to the sites may start to change that. This in itself maybe one of the factors that makes the Google+ and the +1 button something to be reckoned with, but it something that has the potential take over Facebook and Twitter completely?

With the simplicity and increasing popularity of the +1 Button it looks it will become a social media marketing necessity for small businesses. Google have some many other great business tools, that this maybe be the tipping point, as start businesses shift from Facebook and Twitter to the Google+ platform to unify their Google services. As this happens we may then start to see the individual users move towards Google also.

What is Google +1?

What is Google +1?

Facts about the Google Plus 1 Button and why your website needs one!

You’ve probably heard about Google+ and the Google Plus 1 Button. If you are a search engine optimizer, then you definitely know there’s power in adding this to your arsenal. The social aspect of web marketing is so important now that simply building links and making your on-site SEO perfect aren’t enough to rank. Now you see everyone providing these +1 services, but do you really know what you’re getting out of them?

Here’s a basic rundown of Google +1’s and how they can be a game changer for your SEO efforts.

Google +1 Features

The Google+ social network is very different from the likes of Facebook and Twitter. With its simplicity and very techy features, it sets itself apart from the pack. The smooth design is easy on the eyes, and with features such as the video conferencing “hangouts,” Google+ can be a very important tool. In terms of user adoption, it’s still lagging behind Facebook and the other social media giants. When it comes to improving brand presence on Google’s search engine and on the internet in general, however, Google+ is an excellent marketing platform.

By simply adding a Google +1 button to your site, either through some code or a plugin if your site is utilizing a CMS like WordPress, you can open up many doors. When people see this button in addition to other social icons on your site, if they happen to like the content they see, they’ll want to share it with their friends on Google+. This link to your site can be shared through only a small “Circle” of friends or to the general public through their Google+ account.

This viral sharing effect is pretty much the latest “signal” that stresses the importance of content to Google’s search engine.

How +1 Affects Your Search Results

+1 really meshes search engine marketing with social media marketing. You’re more likely to buy a product or check out a website if someone you know has recommended them, right? The Google +1 integration within their search engine is the ultimate example of social proof.

Let’s say a friend of yours on Google+ recommends a page or some sort of content through the +1 Button. If you’re logged into your Google account and search for a key phrase related to that piece of content, then a link to it will show in your search results along with the note that your friend +1’d or shared it.

So imagine if you can really create some good content and people continually +1 it. Imagine the possibilities in targeted search engine results. This can be a viable way of sending targeted traffic to your site. These can potentially be buyers of your products and services.

How +1 Affects Your Websites Rankings

Aside from giving “votes” to bump up recommended search results to friends, Google +1’s also work with search engine results in general, even if you aren’t signed into the Google+ social network. For years, typical factors such as exact match domains and link quality have been huge for ranking websites to the top for related searches, but now the “it” factor really is Google +1’s.

Of course, you still want to have a well-diversified portfolio of links pointing to your website and you still want content on your site that provides the answers visitors are searching for. However, getting people to +1 your website, whether organically or through services, can significantly boost your website in rankings.

Social signals are the way to go nowadays. It gives Google’s search engine the idea that people are really interacting and enjoying your website, so having many +1’s and shares through the Google+ platform can help you surpass your competition in rankings and drive more traffic to your site.
